Interrogative sentence pattern

To build up interrogative sentence, it has three rules---

  • If any sentence has Be verb(am,is.are)/ Have verb(has,have,had)/Modal verb(shall, should, will, would, can, could, may, might) then these verb sits before the subject on interrogative sentence. Example-
  Assertive sentence                                     Interrogative sentence
Bimol is your brother                                    Is Bimal your brother?
He has got a bad tooth                                  Has he got a bad tooth?

  • If any sentence has not these(above↑) verb, then use Do verb before the subject. This Do verb change by tense and person, but the main verb do not change. Example--
  Assertive sentence                                     Interrogative sentence
He goes to school                                           Does he go to school?
He does his homework                            Does he do his homework?

  • If  any sentence has WH (who, whose, whom, what, why, which, where), how much, how many etc question word, then these word sit before the sentence. Example-

  1. Who are you?
  2. Whose book is this?
  3. Which is your pen?
  4. When do you eat?
  5. What are you doing?
*If  Who is his own subject, the Do is not necessary to use. Example-
  • Who insulted you?
*But in negative sentence Do is necessary to use. Example-
  • Who does not know it?
